I have been living!
Ever since I went to the Ateez concert I have been more obsessed with them than I was before. I was a causal fan before honestly, but that concert. It was so good y’all! I love their music and this comeback made me love them even more.
Let’s dive in,
This World
I love how the song begins, like a machine cranking up and coming to life. The gears start moving faster and faster till it’s going full steam ahead. Then the song ends in the same way except it’s slowing a little bit.
San’s singing in the beginning too, it really lures you into the song like a siren. Then followed by Wooyoung, beautiful!
The lyrics though, they’re in the dark and through the song it’s like they’re trying to make a decision pero it’s difficult. It’s like they have different ways to get to their goal and it’s like which path are they willing to take.
They’re trying to save themselves? And then they embrace the darkness in the end. Or rather they’re going to work within in.
Hmm…
Dune
I feel like this song will increase the cult allegations.
I love San in this song, his line is just *chefs kiss*
닿을 수 없이 멀어져가Heaven’s door
Then there is Yeosang’s gravelly metal moment that is followed by Jongho’s heavenly vocals:
Uh 숨이 차 여긴 everyday Uh 벗어날 수도 없어
It works so well following each other! Then, the third time around when Jongho sings with Yeosang’s metal moment, omd, I loved it! Then! Wooyoung and San singing Jongho’s chorus part following him.
Those were my favourite moments of the song.
What are they doing in the dunes? Sometimes, I know what the lyrics are talking about and sometimes I don’t.
Bouncy (K Hot Chilli Peppers)
This song is amazing! It was a love on first listen. In fact, I was in love from the moment I saw the teaser where they’re dancing in a line.
It is such a fun song! It gets me so hype!
For once I feel like I can do the main point of the dance. I don’t usually bother trying boy group dances unless it’s Exo but this dance, I was seized by the conviction that I could do it.
Clearly, I know myself because I can do it. Watch me walk around my house like this for a month. Just bouncing around.
The song starts great with their talking and it just gets better. The part where I start getting mad hype though is San’s line:
아직 배고파 우린 젊기에 (Hey) 비켜봐 ‘cause we need some air
Especially when he hits the배고파.
Maybe I’m feeding off of his energy because he comes in guns blazing.
Then there is the insanely catchy chorus and it’s over, this song has me. It has been in my head since it came out. I am obsessed.
That always worries me though when I love a song too much, I don’t want to over play it to the point where I don’t love it anymore.
The music video was really fun too, a clear story line. Perhaps, the longer I am in Atiny land I will understand the lore more and more.
Mingi straight up killed people in the mv. It had me thinking, “Wow, they’re actually doing pirate activities.” I swear we’ve seen them on land more than on sea.
I love their looks for this comeback. Yeosang and Wooyoung are giving with their long hair and gorgeous accessories. They are also feeling themselves in the performances.
Omd! The performances! There are freestyle elements so its fun to watch how they change it up each performance, i.e.: Yeosang’s parts. Then there are just fun choreographed sequences. In terms of dances this may be the best one this year so far.
Banger of a comeback.
Oh, word on the street is the song is dirty, given that chilli is also slang for penis in Korean. However, I’m not seeing it. I know, Gift’s clean minded era is beginning. *flicks braids*. It’s just like there are many slang words for genitals but they’re not always used as slang.
I.e.: yes Chilli has a double meaning but chilli can also just mean chilli. Or it has the other double meaning of being hot and spicy, so like we’re the hot thing right now. So I took the song to mean the latter. However, I do see why people see it as being sexual.
Django
The lyrics had me looking up Django because I felt like they were referencing something, also I’ve heard Django before but I could not remember from where.
It’s a Spaghetti Western movie.
So, having read the plot and getting that it comes from a Western, the lyrics make sense. Also, Mingi was giving cowboy in the Bouncy music video.
The song itself I really like it, especially the chorus. It’s one song that I find myself replaying a lot.
I like that they all get their moment to shine in this song. I was listening through and looking at the lyrics to see which part was my favourite but honestly I liked all parts of the song. Yes, the chorus hooks me in a bit more but overall I like all of it.
Oh wait, the transition from Mingi’s rap to Hongjoong’s, that also stood out to me apart from the chorus.
Wake Up
Sometimes I forget Hongjoong is a rapper and then he slaps in the face with a really good rap. In this song he for sure slaps me, the way he comes in with the fast rap is just *mwah*.
I really like the staccato of the chorus that Wooyoung sings, the way the song ends with him and then Hongjoong’s ‘wake up’ as well.
Outlaw
It starts off with Hongjoong and Mingi rapping this time. The singing is more subdued, as in this song did not feel as hype or as rousing. That is until the ending where there’s a bit of a switch up and the tension is built and it made me want to toss my ass in a circle.
The lyrics are basically saying, “Don’t poke the bear.” They are outlaws, so don’t mess with them, because if you f*ck around, you’re going to find out.
Overall, the album is good. It links well to The World Ep.1: Movement which is actually my favourite Ateez album at the moment. My favourite was Zero: Fever Part 3 and Treasure Ep. 3: One to All but then The World Ep.1: Movement won me over. It still remains my favourite but I do like how this one built on the themes of the series.
Side note: I also love Treasure Ep. Fin: All to Action. It’s so good.
It is rare for me to love the title track the most but Bouncy really does it for me. However, now looking at the album as a whole it is a bit lighter in tone (in terms of lyrics) compared to the rest of the songs.
Anyway, I can’t wait to see Bouncy live. It’s a must in my life now.
