SPOILERS FOR TRANSFORMERS AND BARBIE
I’ve done it again! I procrastinated!
Two months have gone by with me thinking, I will write something on this, this and that… and then I don’t.
So, I’m going to do a post to catch up on what I missed in Kpop, movies and life.
Kpop
There were three new albums I was really excited for, Exo, NCT Dream and Shownu and Hyungwon.
Now you know I loved the first two, I ride hard for those two groups but shockingly I loved Shownu and Hyungwon’s album the most!
(No shade to Exo and NCT Dream, I did like NCT Dream’s album and Exo’s was ok but it was not my favourite out of their discography. Tempo still holds the crown for me, then second place goes to Exodus… then third to Overdose. As for NCT Dream it was pretty solid, I haven’t decided where on the scale of Gift favs it fits though).
But no really, I loved S & H’s album, it was so good and it gave me what I love! Smooth and sexy R n B!!! Honestly, I am 100% down for this unit, they may now be my favourite kpop duo. Also, isn’t it great to just hear Shownu’s voice again?
Movies
Transformers
I loved Transformers: Rise of the Beasts. It was so good! Fun fact: I have watched every movie in the franchise. I may have skipped through 3 because they killed my man but I have watched them all. I didn’t love the ones with Mark Wahlberg and to be honest at some point I was only watching for the robots. I could not stand the human stories.
I like to make fun of Fast and Furious fans but here I am with my love of transforming robots.
However, since Bumblebee… the movies have been getting good again and eek! This one, was great! I love it when Optimus is on his “F*** them humans” kick. And Mirage, he was so good! I loved him!
When I was kid I watched the Transformers where they turn into animals but people always talked about the car version so I was starting to think it was a fever dream. I’m glad to see it wasn’t. Cheetor was my favourite as a kid.
I don’t think they were utilised enough though. How is it that they only transform in the final fight. I was staring at Optimus Primal like, you could have been doing this the whole time! You could have saved a lot of fights! How you do my girl like that! Also, we did not get to see her transform. They killed her because she was too cool.
(I’m still bitter about that).
I loved the human’s story line, and I love that they didn’t force a romance between them. They were both such great characters with heart. I also love that he actually leaves his brother at home because it’s too dangerous. I hate when they bring the babies along in action movies *stares at Avatar 2*.
There were some things that were formulaic, and I am sad that we didn’t get to see Unicron, especially after I’d looked up robot lore. Listen, if we can have giant robots in the sky in The Eternals we can do it in Transformers! We have the technology!
Also, did Scourge kill his planet for Unicron? How many robot planets are there. I did robot research but I didn’t go deep enough.
Also, did you know that at one point Optimus and Megatron were on the same side, fighting oppression in robot land (Cybertron). I would like to see that movie.
Barbie
I liked the movie. I went with a friend and we definitely went in pink. My wardrobe has been ready for this exact occasion. It was a fun time.
I loved the way it began and also how Barbie land was actually Barbie like. The food they ate was fake and everything obeyed the law of Barbie.
I thought they were going to do a Barbie as in a live action Barbie movie. You know the cartoon movies, where she’s not a doll per se but has all these adventures etc. So I was surprised that our world was incorporated into the movie and that Barbie land was literally a land of barbie’s made of our imagination and shaped by how we play with them.
I was worried about what the storyline would be as the world seemed perfect but then as we met the Ken and then the dance scene I was like ah, conflict. Also, they are unaware that the real world is a mess and feminism did not fix everything.
So, really I was enjoying the movie and the progression of the story. I also love the twist of the mom being the one who Barbie needed to connect with. Then, we returned to Barbie land and I didn’t love the way the story ended.
I know, you’re going to kill me and send me to woman jail. It’s just they kind of forgot the plot of the movie. How is a speech meant to cure depression? Like America’s character had real problems but I don’t think they were addressed. How did Barbie fix her. It’s like she met Barbie and was ok.
Also, the entire board of directors at Mittel is men, what plan of action did they have to tackle that? Like sure, they’re not evil but they needed women there.
The daughter character, Sasha, was very two dimensional. Honestly, she didn’t really add to the story after that scene at the cafeteria. She could have been left at home.
Why was Gloria so sad in the first place?
Honestly, my one con can be boiled down to I wish they had done more show than tell. We were told a lot of things that could have been shown instead and that really was a problem in the last quarter.
Also, justice for Weird Barbie because even the Barbies ostracised her and that was not cool.
I hated that Barbie had to apologise to Ken and make him feel better and he still tried to kiss her. I was ready to fight Ken I swear.
That scene where they were playing the guitar though was hilarious and that’s a real song! Americans were mad at this Tik Toker who said they didn’t know it was a real song but I swear it did not make it over the pond into my ears. Also the I’m just Ken song, it killed me.
But seriously, Ken needed to learn to be a friend. Not everything has to be romantic. *looks at the dude bros* Did you hear that?! Perhaps, that part of the movie was for them. And honestly that’s the biggest pro of the movie. It touched people.
I heard people cried at the Billie Elish song moment where Barbie sees the montage. Also, the speech by Gloria did work for a lot of people. I saw someone saying it is the perfect introduction to feminism.
However, I am surprised that she wanted to be human at the end. After experiencing the male gaze and a world where woman have little power… I was shocked she wanted to go back. However, she seems like she was activist Barbie.
She kept saying she was just stereotypical Barbie but what if all along she wasn’t and she just didn’t see her own potential.
Will Ferral was great in this and so was Alan. Every time the Kens made my blood boil there was Alan, a beacon of light.
I love Alan, he is what all men should be. Also, he was hilarious. I think he was the one who made me laugh the most.
Of course Margot and Ryan killed it as Barbie and Ken. They were so good but I expected that. They really embodied the characters.
So, yes I liked the movie, didn’t love the ending but it didn’t take away from the overall merit of the movie. And honestly, has it been that long since we had a girly flick! That’s a crime! More please.
Lifestyle
I have been going to more and more events this summer. Listen, now that I have adult money I have to use it.
I went to the Van Gogh exhibit at the beginning of summer along with Comic Con. It was so good! I had a great time and even got to take a friend for her first time at a con.
I also went to Grease live experience. I don’t mean I went to see the musical at Broadway or anything, more like it was a live experience where they recreated Rydell High and there were live performances from the actors at random moments, then we watched the movie. It was so much fun, the food was great (no really I had a plain burger but it was the best I’ve ever had in England) and the vibes were good.
I also went to see Sean Paul at Luna Festival. That is when I realised, not all things can be done alone. It would have been great if I had, had a friend to go with. However, Sean was good. He performed my fav! We be Burning. I was living. Also, I found it hilarious that he does not care for men at all!
I also went to Guernsey but I thought I’d do a separate post on that.
Anyhow, so that has been my summer so far. The highlights.
Onto Autumn!
The leaves are already changing.
It has been ages since I watched a Transformers movie, but when you said Cheetor, I knew you were referring to Beast Wars which I definitely watched as a kid and had some of the action figures.

I’m glad I wasn’t the only one to experience Cheetor aha (I know I wasn’t the only one but amongst my friends I am!)
