I have been enjoying slice of life anime on Crunchyroll. When I say Jujutsu Kaisen made me swear off of shonen I meant it because why should I suffer? I only have Bleach and One Piece left and I’m not going to add more. Even MHA got depressing! I tapped out when that American chick showed up because nah, I came here for a good time about kids learning to become superheroes.

Anyway, I have been enjoying slice of life. There have been some fun anime that I have watched. I have watched My New Boss is Goofy. It is super cute and about a guy who escapes a toxic work environment and gets a new job at a genuinely good company and slowly heals. Beautiful. It’s not a BL though, don’t let the clock app trick you.

I watched The Yuzuki Family’s Four Sons. I love this anime so much! I cannot wait for season two! It is so beautiful! It is about four brothers that love each other too much. Their parents died so their oldest brother is taking care of them and ahhhh! I just… and their neighbour is this old man and he wants to be there for them as an adult and I… I mean their older brother is an adult too but he needs help! We all do!

I cannot recommend that anime enough.

I also watched A Sign of Affection. Ooh girl, it is the cutest anime. It is a romance anime about a lady who is deaf and this guy who falls for her. They are both Uni (college) students. It’s a cute feel good romance. It doesn’t have any annoying miscommunication troupes either or like toxic relationship things, no it’s honestly cute and romantic in a healthy way.

You’ll notice I haven’t said any names. I suck at names. I’ve just looked at my crunchy history to make sure I get at least the show names right. This is why I write notes for my show reviews! So yeah, it’s not that I don’t like the shows enough to remember the names. It’s just that I forget all names and I procrastinated too long and I’m feeling lazy right now annnd I lowkey want you to be so curious you look up the shows. If you do look them up let me know what you think.

So, Mr Villain’s Day Off. I saw the edits on the clock app and I thought, “Wow he’s hot and he’s an adult character. I love how chill this anime looks and how obsessed with pandas he is, let me watch it”.

The best decision I ever made.

SPOILERS AHEAD FOR SEASON ONE

I love how the show advocates for taking your PTO. For those of you who don’t know, PTO is paid time off, your holiday/days off basically. He said when I’m off the clock, I am off the clock. What’s that? I’m a villain? I don’t care, today I’m having ice cream and going to the zoo to look at pandas.

There is someone on the clock app who loves pandas. I feel like she would be Mr Villain if she was in cartoon form. Their love for pandas is unmatched.

However, as the show went on I saw that he loves cute things in general. He loves pandas, he loves cats (green flag) and he loves cute cafes with cute themes. He also loves food, is nice to old people, children and convenience store workers.

Is he truly evil? Can you be evil if you’re willing to destroy everything but pandas?

Also, the tree spirits thing? He fully helped them find love and to connect, but he’s evil? The spirit of the Sakura tree decided to shower him with cherry blossoms just because he so genuinely wanted to see them. Is that not a green flag?

Anyone who is nice to servers or convenience store workers cannot be evil.

Also, there’s a part where he could have totally killed Red but he didn’t.

I am not even one of those fans that always goes for the villain. I have an undying beef with Doflamingo, if he has no haters I’m dead! I hate that character! So yeah, it is unusual for me to like a villain type character but I love Mr Villain.

Also, that’s not his name. They call him General in the show… do they ever say his actual name?

Where are they from? Why was their planet destroyed? And who did the rangers fight before they got there because it seems rangers have been a thing longer than Mr Villain has been on earth.

However, if the show answered my questions it would no longer be a slice of life so I guess we may never know. Unless, they find a clever way to talk about it.

Why is there so much paper work for villains? I’d want a refund and I would join the good side if they lumped me with that much paper work. Having said that it would be cool/funny if their headquarters were actually in a totally normal and mundane office building.

Speaking of the good guys, the rangers, their story was depressing. The black ranger lost all his friends and essentially had to raise the new rangers. He never rests. He needs to adopt Mr Villain’s PTO attitude. You clock off and no work is to be done.

We also never hear the rangers names, they’re always referred to as their colour.

Pink and Blue are into each other right? Did I get the vibes right? At the very least Blue likes Pink. Pink’s struggle to be as feminine as she wants to be, I got that. I hope she gets to acknowledge her cute side and see that she can be both strong and cute at the same time.

I love how Mr Villain meets all of them, except Blue, without knowing and helps them in different ways. Although, with Black it was Black who helped him to pet the cat! It led me to think… have none of them ever thought about seducing Mr Villain? He’d be so easy to woo. He just wants to live his cottage core life, in a cute apartment and eat good food. He does not want to labour. Black, you seem lonely, woo him!

Oh, and the cat episode! It was so cute! That’s when I was like, oh there are other villains who threaten earth. I love that they now live together… they’re just so cute! I died.

I have questions about his look as a villain. Is the tail a part of the cape or his body? It looks like it’s attached to the cape. Also, I prefer his hair down. His eyes are so intense. However, I’m sure Black would love him hair up or down. Yes, I will push this ship!

Another ship I saw being cute just for my amusement Rooney and Trigger. They would work don’t you think? Ok, this may be a crack ship but somehow I am very much down for it.

I do like Rooney though. General, Rooney and Black are my favourite characters so far.

I love the one sided beef Trigger has with General. General is like let’s get ice cream whilst Trigger is actively hating him. It’s hilarious! We should all stay unbothered as General.

Also, it shows the difference between people who genuinely see work as just work and people who see work as their whole entire life. Omd, that’s a bar.

I thought Green’s back story was so sad. They became heroes too soon, I mean can you imagine?! It really led me to think about how their powers manifest. They really don’t have a choice. Also, who was the first ranger? How did this start?

I love that Black is Sora and Mugi’s (Green) dad but at the same time, who looks after him? It could be Mr Villain if they open their hearts.

Ok, I’ll stop!

Anyway, those are my thoughts on Mr Villain. I think there will be a second season. The manga is already finished it appears so hopefully it won’t take long. I can wait anyway.
