I have been talking about Yeosang a lot but I feel it is necessary. There is one thing I hate in this world, that I have always hated, and that is unfairness. There are different kinds of unfairness in the world, I hate them all, small and big. So yeah, it makes no sense why Yeosang hasn’t been able to sing more until now. In fact, the one song where he got his big break, Halazia, wasn’t even part of the main arc, it’s a spin off. A filler! Still a win is a win.
Then, we thought things would be on an up and up from then on. Then Golden Hour happened. *takes a shot*
Anyway, he can sing. That’s what gets me. He can sing well.
People love to talk about how in Kpop there are people who are solely visuals so they don’t get lines. But man can sing!
So for his birthday he said amma show you! Also, this is a thank you for all those who have supported me. His cover last year was a big hit and this year he was like wait, wait you’ll see. I have more to give. And more did he have.
He gave us four covers, FOUR!!!

His birthday project was in two parts. On his actual birthday he released a cover and a music video. The song is 나의 사춘기에게 (to my youth) by BOL4. The song is about his trainee days. In his birthday MD he talks about it being about his emotions and time as a trainee.
Everything I have heard about trainee life makes me respect idols even more. They really put them kids through hell, like sirs and ma’ams they’re children!
I recommend checking out his cover (and the original) and looking at the lyrics. They had me emotional! When we get to the end of the mv and he puts Yeosang ‘Singer’ on his locker, I teared up! I was like yes Yeosang! You are a singer! Claim it!
I reached peak African Aunty… but on the real claim it! Speak it into existence!
Anyway, the song is beautiful. His voice is gorgeous and soothing, and, AND someone put Yeosang’s vocals and BOL4’s vocals together and they harmonise so well! Imagine if they did a collab, that would be so good!
This song also had me, and others, thinking he would eat an OST. He would devour an OST! Yeosang put me in the ring! I’ll get you that OST, make me your agent! In a kdrama that I would love, like Because this is my first life style. I would die.

The second part of his birthday project is his birthday MD. He prepared four cover songs as I said and the remaining three were revealed with his MD. His MD this year was a photobook. The photobook is split into four sections and each song covers each section and is meant as an accompaniment as you browse the photobook. The photobook is like a mini visual diary of his 2023 to 2024. You get a QR code for the playlist with the book and two photocards, and a bunch of cute stamps of him. The playlist is available to everyone so if you weren’t able to get the book don’t worry you can still listen to his covers. There are people who posted the link.
Then each section begins with an intro. He introduces the section and the theme, what he feels etc. Then you are able to see how the song relates to what he talked about. It is all in Korean so I bet Korean fans were able to just put the playlist on and read. It took me longer because my Korean is intermediate, so I also needed help from Google for fancy words I had not seen before. It was mostly the intros, I had trouble understanding them. The photo section though I did better at but words still ambushed me. Like I learned the word for a shooting star!
For this section he did a cover of Sandeul’s 짝사랑 (Crush). Although, I think of the title as one sided/unrequited love. When he did a pop live before people received the photobooks and after the teaser for the covers was released he said that this song was speaking to us fans. I remember not believing him as the go to for idols when they don’t want to admit something about romance is to say a song or a cover is about the fans. However, reading his thoughts I can see what he meant. Essentially he is talking about our parasocial relationship and how he found it fascinating that he was supported, even from debut, when we didn’t know him personally.
That’s so interesting. I’ve always wondered how I would deal with fame because it’s weird for so many people to like you, does that mess with your head? Do you become conceited? For me, I wouldn’t believe it, like y’all don’t know me for real. However, it is still nice to have support and for that support to allow you to pursue your dream. So you’re grateful but also in wonder and shock, like you like me, a complete stranger?
I thought that was pretty cool of him to bring up and in that sense the song fits, because it is like a one sided love essentially.

This section the cover is Roy Kim’s 그때 헤어지면 돼 (only then). I love this cover. It is my favourite cover. It is my kind of ballad. I love how he sings softly and how his voice builds. I feel like this song suits his voice the most out of the covers. He has a deep voice, but not in a yo ho type of way but in a thick, rich and textured type of way.
He is able to convey the emotions of the song so well through his voice! He takes me on a journey and even if I don’t know the lyrics I get what he is trying to say.
Then the key change towards the end, perfection!
I love the meaning of the song and how it relates to his intro of that section. The song talks about how they are in love and how loving someone is an easy thing. However, if the time comes when they will fall in love with someone else or they grow apart and there is nothing else the person can do, only then will they let them go. I feel it relates in the sense that his intro talks about how he’s scared of the day when we’ll leave in the future. However, if that is to happen he wants to cherish the memories that we make now so he can keep them with him in the future. It’s a very non bitter break song, a healthy one at that. Or rather not break up more just worries about a break up but even as they worry, they’re not being mean about it. I like that. It fits Yeosang too, he is the type to not want you to leave but still wave you off and wish you well knowing he did everything he could.
Omd, that just made me emotional. Sorry, he reminds me of Tohru. Sometimes, I really feel for kind people who are selfless… like please boo, you can put up a fight. Sorry, tangent.
Anyway, I am super thankful Yeosang introduced me to this song. I listened to the original and it also bangs.

This section speaks on the future when he is a grandfather. He’s like I hope you’ll still remember me in that time. This section had me emotional as I listened to the song. It’s an English cover of Chris James’ Don’t Forget About Me and he nailed it. Again, he conveys the emotions well and again I love his rich voice.
I am a low toned, deep voiced stan. I love those voices in Kpop but unfortunately Kpop doesn’t know what to do with such voices, men or women. The only team that has truly capitalised on a deep voice and found creative ways to include it is 3racha.
Yeosang needs his own 3racha, because that voice of his… gorgeous. I genuinely hope he gets snapped up for a collab by someone who’s heard his covers and is like damn yes, I want this voice on my next album.
But yes, he seems to be worried about us forgetting him. Sir, as long as my memory is intact I will remember you. You’re goofy, sweet, kind and hard working. You’re a celebrity that has made an impression on me, in a good way, and yeah for good reasons I will not forget you.
I wrote that like he’ll ever read this post lol but you get my point.
So those are the four covers. I encourage you to check them out, especially if you like ballads, it’s a nice playlist. It’s lovely to listen to on a rainy day or after you’ve had a super stressful day at work *raises hand* seriously great at calming the nerves.
I look forward to seeing more from Yeosang and his beautiful, deep and rich as a lake, voice.
