My girls are back! And with a banging comeback.
Now, I am aware that they’re saying “justice makes me fight!” but when I first heard the song I thought they were saying fly, hence the title of this post.
Rock is back! Dreamcatcher came back with the fire of a thousand suns to make sure you remember they are the queens of rock in the Kpop scene. And what a powerful comeback this was!
Their previous comeback, OOTD, was more chill whereas this one is hard hitting in every way. The song goes hard, the dance goes hard, and their fits go hard.
Let’s talk about the song. That chorus though?! I know people don’t like autotune or when producers digitally mess with an artists vocals but dude, Justice is an example of using technology right! The alteration, the glitch effect, did not take away from their voices but enhanced them. It made it even more epic and gave the song a cyberpunk feel. It feels like it belongs in a sci fi movie or something.
I love that it is not just one person who sings the iconic “justice makes me fight!” but that all the vocalists get their turn.
I love how the song builds in the first half. We start with Jiu in a calm place, but the song keeps building until the pre chorus and chorus. I love Dami’s “guiding me up, guiding me up” part, especially during their live shows. She sings that part from her diaphragm! You can feel it.
Then the bridge, with Sua and Yoohyeon, it’s so good and the perfect break in the song. Then the song builds again for the final chorus and you think you’ve heard it all but no! the combined high note of Siyeon and Gahyun is so epic!
Side note: Gahyun has changed the English spelling from Gahyeon to Gahyun. Apparently, Gahyun is the original English spelling but her company insisted on Gahyeon.
Siyeon is on a hiatus for health reasons right now, but she must have gone on break after filming a lot of content. We got to see her in two live recordings of the song, which was nice. I hope she rests well and comes back refreshed. The job of a kpop idol is not easy.
Speaking of not easy, they have all those high notes that they have to do in the chorus and the dance goes hard! They do not have time to rest. Well, they can during the second verse as it is mostly Dami but other than that they are sitting on go!
They’ve done well in the live performances I’ve seen but I am glad that the ones doing the high note opted to take it easier instead of hitting all the steps.
Other than Justice, a song on the album that I liked was 2 Rings. You know my love of guitars, from jump the song serenades me. I love the use of the electric guitar in this! And the chorus, the chorus though! That’s when I truly start bopping.
I love Dami’s voice in the song too. I love how she sings the song and so she, and Sua, stood out to me the most.
It’s such a fun song. It feels like they had fun singing it. I can see it being used in a driving movie, when they’re on that high, in that happy montage before shit hits the fan. Ooh or it could be used in a Charlie’s Angels reboot. I volunteer to act in that future movie with this song being my theme!
So yeah, a strong comeback. It’s been lowkey and they’re about to start the American leg of their tour. I am actually so gassed they came to Europe first before America. That never happens. Granted I couldn’t go this time, *sniff*, I had to be a responsible adult and not spend all my money on the concert, but still they came here first!
Anyway, amma play 2 Rings again. Harder! Deeper! Faster! Drive!
