You’re Never Fully Dress Without a Smile

If you’ve read my musicals post you know I love Annie (1999) and I do. There’s a song that got me thinking recently and that’s: You’re Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile.

I’ll admit when I was kid I never thought too deeply about the song and its lyrics. I would just dance around thinking I was in a musical and sing along. Then one day it hit me what they were saying:

Who cares what they’re wearing
On Main Street,
Or Saville Row,
It’s what you wear from ear to ear
And not from head to toe

When I say I thought hard about what they meant ‘by ear to ear’ and then I got it, oh a smile!

Hey, I see you rolling your eyes! Leave kid Gift alone!

Anyway, it got me thinking recently, people really do look better when they smile. One of the things that attracts me to a person is their smile, if they have a beautiful smile it shines and enhances their beauty.

And really in a look obsessed world who cares what you’re wearing? I mean what does wearing a name brand do? It gives you status sure but what else? What about the stuff that really matters?

But I guess that’s down to perspective. I can sit here and say it matters more to have friends and to impact people’s lives positively but there are people who disagree.

Back to the song, it’s such a joyful song with a good message that even when I’m singing it I always end up smiling naturally.

In choir we’re always told to smile as it makes us look better when we sing. And it’s true when I look back at a video of me singing with my mom and I’m straight faced because of nerves I really don’t look good. However when I’m by myself and just messing around singing BTS – So What?  into my camera I look great, because why? I’m smiling.

A smile can fix almost everything.

I like the idea that it completes an outfit as well.

Anyway that is all,

A truly musey post, ciao!

Ps: Although I should say creepy smiles don’t count. If your smile is coming from an evil place then it’s not good.
