We are at The World series! Yay! This is the current series in Ateez land as we have just had Will the final episode.
I have thoroughly enjoyed The World series and it was a series that I was present for from beginning to end as a fan. The only series I have been present for from beginning to end (I became an Atiny part way through Zero: Fever series).
The World series is set in Z land and Ateez is going through it. Z land is going through it full stop!
Let’s get into it.
Episode 1: The Movement
My current favourite album. I love this album. I have listened to this album so many times, it is constantly on repeat. Did I talk about this album before? *checks* Wow, I didn’t! I wrote about Zero: Fever Part 3 and then the next album I talked about was The World Episode 2!
It must have been during one of my hiatus periods (from blogging). Anyhow, I love this album. As I haven’t talked about it before I can go all out!
Propaganda is an intro that slaps. I usually don’t pay attention to intros but this one is perfect. It really sets up the tone of the album and of the world very well.
Sector 1… this holds a special place in my heart. Yeosang starts the song and just… he kills it! The dance…! Ah!
I love the trio Yeosang, Yunho and San together. They just bodied the beginning of the song.
I love how they then have the cannon dance moves at Yunho’s part. Ah!
This song was teased for the longest time. It popped up all the way in Answer! It was even featured, the beginning bars, in one of their reality shows. The one where Wooyoung gets kidnapped.
The song finally became a reality here in The Movement. I wonder if Atiny’s back then went mad waiting for the song.
It starts off mellow and then picks up and ends bombastic. In a similar vein they start off acknowledging the darkness they are in but then they’re like, “Nah fam, wake up! Let’s shake this place up!”
They have to shake the tables and start a revolution!
Cyberpunk the sexy hoe of Ateez’s discography. The epitome of sad twerking in the club.
The song is about a place where no one laughs, a frozen night. The silence of a soul that has been taken. No one escapes this is the underworld?! Cyberpunk really sets the tone of the dark Z world they are in. It is cold, soulless (it seems literally) and it is draining them of joy to the point where they desperately scream, “I want to feel alive!”
And yet the dance is sexy. And yet it is one of the sexiest dances they have. I wondered which song was the sexy one that didn’t fit the lyrics Atiny’s were talking about before I went to the concert in 2023 and when I found it was Cyberpunk I looked up the lyrics. What part of soulless world makes you want to grind Ateez?!
I can’t…
Guerilla, break the wall!
What did he do to the men at the beginning of the MV?
They are fighting back, this is their battle cry. They are breaking the wall with their feelings, their emotions, which is the best weapon against an emotionless world. It is cool that it goes into screamo at some points as that really wakes you up. They are frustrated to the point they have to scream!
You can see them going under cover so they can take over the media and airwaves to get their message across. At the end of the MV one child escape the indoctrination facility.
They have infiltrated Z land and they are spreading the good word about freedom. They use music and the PA system to do so. Z land is very controlled and there are blimps everywhere. They also send out flyers.
Side bar: I used to think I made blimps up and they weren’t real. Why don’t we talk about them anymore? Where did they go? … I read a book that was set on a blimp once, it was so good. I wish I remembered its name.
They are also on individual missions, apart from when they are sending out the flyers.
When the kid escapes they see this through the surveillance system they have. They were also talking to some random old man. How did they set up such a sophisticated PA system?
I’ve been accused of thinking too hard when it comes to world building. I’ll try not to in this instance.
The Ring! This one is really fun to sing along to live.
“I’m not ok! I’m not ok! 끊어 버리겠어, 지겨운 반복!” Jongho, my love, never stop singing.
They reference the ring to rule them all, but isn’t the ring evil? In Lord of the Rings, it’s evil. Not that it is used to do evil things, it’s actually evil and a brat (personal thoughts). I know I said I wouldn’t over think but I can’t help it. Is it evil in this context too?
It must be because they’re talking about breaking the powers that be, that try to suppress the world. They are saying they will not be suppressed, they will shout louder, fight harder and make a river out of tears!
Seonghwa and Yeosang though, they stole the song for me, along with Jongho. It’s like a chant, a chant to freedom!
WDIG grew on me. It stands for, Where do I Go?
Where do they go? They are lost in the dark world and they are not sure where they can go. However, they would like to escape.
New World, if you saw my concert post you know this is my favourite on this album. I have played it over and over so many times! Imagine starting a concert with this song! It was so perfect! It didn’t help us beat the cult accusations though.
It is the perfect end to the album. They came with the aim of waking up the world and now they are saying, “As we’re awake it is time to usher in a new world!” They will awaken everyone with thunder and they will be an unstoppable force like a storm (typhoon type). You just need to hold their hand and step into the new world.
Mingi and the chorus take me higher in this song. It’s too powerful.
Spin Off
As the title suggest this is a spin off. It is not really in The World series but it is still relevant to the lore so I’ll include it here. I’ll just talk about Halazia though as the other songs are remixes. I have already talked about my beef with remixes so I won’t again.
Halazia, this is my friend’s favourite song. She was so sad they didn’t do it in concert.
In the song they talk about how all the emotions have been swallowed, taken from the world, drained if you will, even love. They want it back.
Mingi has a, “Who are you staring straight back at me in the reflection” moment. It reminds me of another song, Dazzling Light, where they saw themselves through another and were like who am I? “Be the light, halazia”
The vocals in this song are so hauntingly beautiful. I just love it. I love listening to them and I love singing along. Yeosang got his big break in this song *side eyes KQ for taking so long* he finally got to showcase his low voice! It is the perfect pre chorus. Also, once again, loved his fit. It is one of my favourite Yeosang fits but not my number one.
Anyway, Ateez want to be released from the dark, cold and soulless world. They are looking for the light, to bring the light back into the world along with fire and passion. They’re saying to fight back against the darkness.
They are in a desolate city, there are ruins caused by big fight or the foe ruined the city. They, Ateez, have defeated the Halateez or the Halateez were defeated and they, Ateez, are taking over. They seem to have amassed a following. There are people watching what they are doing but they are not the masked fencers. The true villains make an appearance?! The masterminds.
The world lost gravity, which is why there are rocks flying upwards, because of the bells. San thus pulls one down manually.
It is set in the same place as Guerilla, the buildings look similar just ruined. So is Halazia after their big confrontation?
Guerilla the hopeful beginning, Halazia the aftermath?
Episode 2: Outlaw
I still haven’t moved on from this album. It was a moment. It set off the summer! I did talk about this album before as mentioned above. Amma just check what I said so I don’t repeat myself. Hold on…
Okay I’ve read it!
I did fulfil my dream of seeing Bouncy live, they came to England for an event in November and I was there. There was also Xikers, Stayc, Jannabi, Youngji and more. Out of the groups I didn’t know Jannabi really won me over.
Anyway, back to Ateez. It is funny, when I wrote the review when the album dropped I really didn’t get the lyrics. I get them now, at least much better than I did before.
This World – the lines between good and evil are getting blurred. It is becoming morally grey and they are falling. They have to face the cruel truth and it is scary. Even though it is scary or difficult to fight the darkness of the world, they have to do it. In this song though they’re like, hmm to defeat darkness we need darkness.
Dune – they are in despair. They have very little light in them and their desire is diminishing. They’ve always had light and fire so this is not looking good. Their goal is looking like it is further and further away from them. They are in a pickle.
Bouncy – this song deviates from the tone a little bit. It’s upbeat and bright. They’re saying they’re going to make it bouncy, show the world their passion. This is their most title track to title track.
However, the mv carries on the storyline. They are carrying out their missions, in pairs, to overthrow the state. Mingi and Hongjoong are on individual missions and theirs are the most deadly/violent. They straight up murdering although Hongjoong doesn’t really take out a person but a fencer.
Disclaimer – they are not actually fencers I just like calling them that because of the masks. However, they are also not human they’re AI. So, I stand by my statement.
The most low stakes being Yunho and Jongho and Wooyoung and San who seem to be having fun. Although, Yunho and Jongho have infiltrated the police. However, it ends with an appearance of Z (?), they ain’t going down without a fight. This is where I get confused again about the purpose of Z. When will my diary version albums get here!
The fashion, the stylists popped off with Bouncy. We had long haired Wooyoung and Yeosang, I am a long hair enthusiast so it was great (what a time). They had the best hair accessories, oh I was living.
Then Wooyoung’s fit, loved it! I especially loved the fighting ring fit so if you see me in something similar at a concert you know why… and you know what I was aiming for.
Yeosang… Yeosang bodied this era! He looked GOOD! That green top moment, it was like a fae let go of their glamour! Then the white and blue tank top. The hanbok fit! Someone on twitter was saying how it’s fascinating how he can gain a ton of muscle and still give babygirl. He can still serve both masculinity and femininity. He had people gagged and confused. Wow, it will go down in the history books as one of his best looks.
Mingi, I loved his fit in the salon. He was just so pretty, especially when he looked back and was like, “Sit back and relax man”. *screams into the void*. I also am a sucker for a cowboy look. They need to stop giving me ideas because they’ll need to come to England thirty times so I can do them all… or I’ll go to their other Europe stops.
Seonghwa was hot in that beginning sequence too. I love how the song starts with him.
Django – this appears to be on theme with the movie. I wouldn’t know as I haven’t watched it but it matches that outlaw cowboy lifestyle. They live for today only and don’t worry about tomorrow. They are the type to go all in. They are willing to bet it all, so they’re saying they’re a different breed and we cannot match up. It’s over, they’ve won.
Wake Up – they have been losing hope this album and in this song they are almost going back to their emotionless state. However, they are like no, do not give in, listen to my voice inside your head and wake up! *stand up!* You’ll feel yourself losing yourself but when you wake up the euphoria will be like no other.
I am still in shock over this song’s dance.
Also, when I first listened to this song I liked it an average amount, now I love it an insane amount. Jongho singing wake up really does wake up my soul and you know how I feel about Hongjoong’s verse. It’s just a great song! It is on my top list of favourite b sides.
Outlaw – it seems they have awoken. They are saying, “Don’t wake up the me that is inside because he is a monster and you can’t handle him”. Whilst Hongjoong is like, “Nah I’m sitting on go! I am ready! I am ready to fight every and anyone”. They are the outlaws and they have finally reached the Sector 1 awakening within themselves again.
I’ll stop here as I’ll do a separate post for their latest album.
As you can see they have been fighting the good fight and it has been difficult. They came in hopeful, as they usually do, but they were really tested. The darkness almost won out. The Z world is not for the weak of resolve. They proved they could overcome the hurdles and strengthen their resolve when it weakened.
I like how the songs match the darkening tone of the lore.
I am curious about where we will be going after Z world, after The World series.
