I’ve Been Ready! – Chungha | The Queen’s Back

The queen is back! I have been waiting! (every time I say that the Sirius quote flashes in my mind). Although, home girl is saying it hasn’t been that long.

I guess it hasn’t but she dropped the gem that is Querencia and then some other songs after and it felt like she disappeared. Then I heard what her old company did, and wow talk about evil, and I was worried we wouldn’t see her for a long time.

So, I was really glad to see she got picked up by a new company and that she was having a comeback. Say what you want about Jay Park but his company More Vision has actually done right by her. I didn’t realise how much her old company didn’t do until I saw how much More Vision did and is doing. Girl has been booked and busy.

Her social media presence also feels more authentic now. It is sad that all her old content is gone (why do they do that? Cube even did that to CLC’s Sorn) but I like that she gets to make her own stuff now.

So yeah, hotly anticipated comeback it has been. She came back with two songs, Eenie Meenie and I’m Ready.

When I heard Hongjoong was going to be featured on Eenie Meenie I was gagged. As my recent posts show I am heavily into Ateez. I am an Atiny. And if you look at my old posts from like before Querencia I have been a Chungha fan. So, the two of them together! A collab I didn’t know I needed.

I did see someone say they wished his feature was longer, I disagree. It was the perfect length for a feature. He came in, rapped my socks off, and then left with me wanting more. That’s what a perfect feature should be.

He added spice to the song. I love how he matched her vibe too. Also, I thought it was so cute that they added Ateez dance moves when he was rapping. Ah! And Chungha really delivers that sass when she’s dancing to his part at performances.

That is one thing I wished for, that they could do it live together. However, he’s super busy so I knew that was not going to happen. Gayo?

What about Chungha? The song was more understated, especially the chorus. It is minimalism in a song. The instrumentals aren’t too heavy, most of the times it’s just the guitar and a beat. You know I love me some guitar. It’s a chill song to listen and the chorus is catchy in a way that isn’t annoying.

I really like the pre chorus section, “Oh I, I know what I like” ooh I just love how she hits those notes. My favourite part of the song.

Eenie Meenie is a perfect song for a title track. It’s catchy like I said, the lyrics allow for a hook dance that can be followed easily, there are parts where the song slows down for her vocals and there is a dance break. It’s all perfect for promotion.

She also served looks upon looks in the MV. My favourite was the white one with the big floofy hat. I am a sucker for those.

However, I’m Ready is my kind of Chungha song.

I’ve just missed her slaying! Plus, my obsession with waacking has not lessened in any way. I will master the dance! As for now I’ll just watch the masters, dying in adoration.

Everything about the performance video slays. The outfits, the looks she has on, and her hair, omd so good! The dancers kill it, I love them and I love how they interact with each other in the performance.

She’s close with the people she works with whether it be her manager or her stylists or the dancers and you can tell in the performance video.

The cinematography though… the director ate. Sometimes with dance performance videos I get annoyed when they do too much and make it hard to follow the dance. Like fam, I’m here to see the moves. However, this director got a perfect balance between doing artsy shots of her alone and framing her and the dancers all together as an ensemble like they were sculptures. The shots of her alone also came at the perfect moment, not taking away from the dance, sometimes even adding to it like in the slow motion 360 moment.

I really like the part when they’re posing, the sculpture moment, making shapes with their bodies in staccato, and they were silhouetted due to the lighting and then when they start dancing faster again they come back into light.

Side note: Was there a moment in the beginning where she had a lizard eye?

She had moments where she was trapped in crystals, emerging in smoke… oh! The upside down moment! That was so cool!

As for the song. It’s good, I like it. No notes. The lyrics talk about her being ready, of course, not just for her comeback but for any challenges that come her way. It felt like a way to tell her haters, baby, you ain’t never going to hold me down.

Eenie Meenie kinda felt like… wait let me listen again.

Yeah, I’m back. My impression is the same as before. The lyrics give “I got choices and so do you”. I got the impression she was talking about how romantically she knows what she likes and she’s got options. Then Hongjoong’s verse gives carpe diem, now is the chance to seize your moment. His verse had less romantic undertones and more career undertones so now I’m wondering if the whole song is about work.

Anyhow, those are my thoughts about her comeback. I have thoroughly enjoyed it. I find it so interesting how she’s so soft spoken in real life (or at least in interviews seeing as I don’t know her like that) and then on stage a tiger emerges.

She only came out with two songs, however she mentioned she’s going to be really active in this period coming up so yay!

I know she is going to slay 2024 *flicks braids*.
