You thought I was done with Monsta X! Nah, I ain’t done!
Actually, I was meant to do this post last year but as has been the theme of late, ahem, *procrastination* (singing).
So yeah, I finally got round to it today (11/03). There were songs that stuck out to me after I had gotten into Monsta X and they are from their B sides or like random collabs and I just love them a lot. However, I feel like they don’t hyped as much, so I wanted to hype them.
The first being Myself. The one word that comes to my mind when I listen to this song is Roswell. Did anyone of you watch that show? My cousins and I were obsessed! I was especially obsessed with Michael and Maria, forget the main couple, M and M were the ones!
The song fits the vibe of the show. It feels dreamlike, trippy, in that way that some dreams have you waking up thinking, “Wait, what?” Kind of like season 2 of Roswell. I thought I knew where that season was going but I didn’t! I didn’t! *sobs*.
Listening to the song feels like floating in space or floating in a swimming pool, and contemplating life or just spacing out. The song feels like a moment in a movie where everything slows down around the romantic couple and they’re just staring at each other (satosugu? *sobs again*).
I love the vibes and it’s something different from Monsta X. It’s the song that actually inspired this post because I could not stop thinking about it yet no one really talks about it.
The next song is Magnetic with Sebastian Yatra. This one isn’t so underrated, I don’t think, but it’s not their most popular English song. Monsta X does the best English songs in kpop so there is plenty to choose from. However, Magnetic is one of my favourites along with Who Do You Love.
When you add them singing in English with Sebastian singing in Spanish it is a deadly combo. They had my hips moving. They had me in the zone! They had me wishing they played this song at the club! Sebastian in the second verse?! That’s my favourite part.
Shownu and I.M. really suit Latin music the most I feel. The way they sing/rap, the tone of their voices… it’s just perfect.
The MV was interesting. Were Monsta X the only ones not real because they couldn’t make it to the filming site?
The third song is One Love, the slow jam of the century. The bass goes off on this song, it is so good to listen to this with your headphones on… ooh! It is a banger from the very first note that is sung! I love this song so much.
This is exactly my kind of slow jam. I can be picky when it comes to slow music, so One Love is exactly up my alley. It’s gold, musical gold. They could woo me easily just by singing this to me.
Then the bridge… Kihyun! Who hurt you baby? He sang with his soul!
The last song is Underwater. This is another slow queen but in different font from One Love. It is more sombre and melancholy… so naturally I should hate it but no, I vibe with it.
It’s soft and I like that. It’s soothing.
They talk about how they need saving as they’re underwater. They’ve fallen in love and she’s the only one who can save them. They’ve depicted falling in love or falling for the person as overwhelming, hence why they’re underwater. They’re really going through it in the song experiencing loneliness and all that. I’m starting to question why I find the song soothing.
It’s one of those songs you can relax to when you need a moment to just feel feelings.
Beware though, the song has random bursts of energy!
That’s it for my hidden gems of Monsta X. I have one more Monsta X post and I’m done for now.
