Suicide Squad: The Review!

There are spoilers

I have been looking forward to seeing this movie since last year! Ever since I learned about the Suicide Squad through Smallville they have been my favourite anti heroes.

They’re so real and don’t try to be good and yet they still do good. Granted they’re being forced into it but hey at least they do it.

I wasn’t too sure about Will Smith as Deadshot but as with Ben Affleck as Batman I was proven wrong. He was amazing as Deadshot. He brought his own flare and style to the role and he was funny in a real way that I loved. He was one of the highlights of the movie.

I also wasn’t too sure about the cinematography of the movie when I was watching the trailer. I wasn’t sure the style would suit Suicide Squad and the grittiness of the characters but it did. It worked well and added to the story line. It gave the movie it’s own unique style that set it apart from other DC movies.

The way the story was told was different, flashbacks were used a lot and they introduced almost all the characters one by one. That was cool. We got to know them early on but there was some confusion. Now I was sort of familiar with the story line they were going with as I’ve seen it before in comics but if I was not familiar with the source material I would find certain elements confusing. Like that whole thing with Enchantress… the setting off of the bomb? That didn’t make total sense. Also some scenes felt jumpy, it was as if things had been cut out and we were left with a disjointed story.

Having said that the Joker and Harley Quinn were amazing. Margot Robbie and Jared Leto perfectly captured the crazy, slightly unhealthy relationship the characters have. I also liked that Harley Quinn was brutal. It would have been so disappointing if they had made her just a pretty face but thankfully they didn’t.

My favourite characters though had to be Katana and El Diablo. They had good souls. Diablo had a hard time of it as he had lost his family due to his own actions. He grew the most in the movie. He sacrificed the most and I related to him. The scene at the end when he fires up… that was epic!

And Katana! The one totally good character in the film. She was a beast. I want a solo film for her, I mean, can you imagine? She has a great story! It would be epic so someone please make this happen!

Oh and of course Viola Davis killed it as Amanda Waller. That woman is not meant to be liked, she is a beast (in a different way than Katana) and she don’t care. I still don’t like her but that means Viola did a good job.

Overall it was a good movie, thoroughly enjoyable but the plot was jumpy and it was a shame Slipknot died so early on in the game.

I would give it a 3 out of 5 as there are improvements that could be made and I shall be looking forward to seeing them in the sequel!

Ps: It’s a shame Enchantress got used so quickly but real talk why did she snoop in that cave? Why was she surprised when she got bad juju? Girl I would have been gone the moment light hit that cave. No thank you, I don’t need that juju in my life.
