Let’s Talk About Katakuri – One Piece (re-upload)

SPOILERS WITHIN

He may be the only villain I like… I think. Searching my brain as of this moment he is the only villain I like.

I didn’t like him at first because I knew he was going to be hard to beat and I just wanted Sanji to be free and for us to all be reunited again in Wano. But Katakuri came with his big scarf and predicting the future and I thought, “Great, he’s going to set us back ten thousand chapters”.

But then the more we got to know him the less mad I was. I mean I thought the extent of his powers was the observation (looking into the future) haki but then it turned out he’d eaten a devil fruit too and man was a mochi! Imagine, mochi! That was the most unexpected power ever.

When he starting fighting Luffy I thought a) we’re really not going to take on Big Mom if Katakuri is fighting Luffy and b) mochi is more powerful than rubber?

Forgive me I don’t know the properties of mochi.

So his premonitions combined with his mochi powers made him hard to beat. That was honestly one of the best fights of the Big Mom arc. Luffy learnt some new moves, he levelled up and he faced his greatest rival, mochi. I mean Luffy has always faced people different from him, his anti (Enel) and people more experienced than him. He’s never faced someone with a power so similar to his. It was like he was fighting himself but a better version of himself. That made the fight so much more interesting than I originally thought it was going to be.

Apart from that what made me like Katakuri was his personality. I don’t care for Big Mom, she’s like a grown child with too much power who regularly throws tantrums and needs to be told the truth about what she did to Caramel but having said that her children genuinely have a family relationship. Katakuri genuinely cares for his siblings and I found myself liking him because of that.

It was that scene where he was talking to Brulee after his defeat and they talked about how he never showed weaknesses, how he said his back never hit the floor or how he covered his face to hide his mouth. He did all that because people took advantage of his weakness and attacked Brulee as a way to get to him. He then decided to never show his weakness again as he showered terror on those who’d marked up Brulee’s face. If that’s not love I don’t know what is.

He became strength, something his family could rely on, so that they’d never feel weak or vulnerable again. They may be villains but their bond is real.

After reading that scene I could not hate on Katakuri. Even the fact that he decided to fall on his back after his battle with Luffy was something. Just the ending of that battle, he’s a cool dude. I hope the anime does the fight justice.

I wonder if we’ll see him again. We probably will right?

Anyway those are the reasons I like Katakuri, next shall be Fujitora!

If you’re wondering why I’m re-uploading. I had another blog and I’m deleting it and transferring posts here. As to not overwhelm you (and me) I’m releasing them one by one.
