If Today Was Your Last Day

Each day’s a gift and not a given right

I love this song because it has a very good message.

What would you do if today was your last day? Would you do something good or something bad or nothing at all?

By thinking of a day as your last it forces you to think about all the things you haven’t done but could have done or said but didn’t say. So really I feel like this song is encouraging us to do the things we put off.

Stop wasting time saying, “I’ll do it tomorrow” or stop thinking that you can’t do something for whatever reason. Take a chance and do what you need to do, what you want to do, so that you have no regrets later on in life.

Do it all so that if today was your last day you wouldn’t be disappointed with your life.

Now I’m not saying do a whole bunch of morally bad stuff you never got to do or were too scared to do, no, and neither is the song. Nickelback is talking more about doing good and pursuing your dreams.

We all have dreams don’t we? So pursue them. Whatever is stopping you work it out and then do it! Just like Shia Labeouf said, “Just do it!”

This verse in the song perfectly captures what I’m trying to say:

If today was your last day
Would you make your mark by mending a broken heart?
You know it’s never too late to shoot for the stars
Regardless of who you are
So do whatever it takes
‘Cause you can’t rewind a moment in this life
Let nothin’ stand in your way
‘Cause the hands of time are never on your side

So if today was your last day, could you say goodbye to yesterday?
