The Best Naruto Ship: Shikamaru and Temari

This is my favourite ship. I didn’t always ship them but when I saw them together in Shippuden when Naruto came back with Jiraiya I was like, “Aha!” I see you.

They reminded me of Asuma and Kurenai. Asuma and Kurenai were always together in Naruto and then when Asuma died it finally got confirmed that they had been a couple and furthermore that they were expecting a baby. (It was a tragic way to find out about a relationship really).

So then I surmised that in Naruto relationships happened in secret and if we were going to get hints from Kishimoto they were going to be subtle.

Onto Shikamaru and Temari. When Naruto showed up and Shikamaru was with her showing her around because of the Chunnin exams I was like, “*strokes chin* A clue”. So then I decided to keep an eye on them throughout the story. Then they kept appearing together and Temari encouraged Shikamaru to get off his lazy ass and become a jonin.

I also found it interesting that Shikaku was married to a boisterous woman. I thought to myself, as much as Shikamaru complains he’s probably going to end up with a woman just like his mom in personality.

Then the fateful day happened, when Shikamaru and Temari became canon! I was not in the least bit surprised and neither were the other shippers out there. They were the most natural ship. It happened how it would happen in real life if they weren’t badass ninja and I think that that’s what attracted me to them, well that and the fact that Shikamaru is my favourite character.

I feel that Shikamaru and Temari complement each other well. Shikamaru is laid back, calm and thoughtful. He’s loyal and pragmatic, traits that I feel Temari appreciates and needs. He’s the kind of guy who will always be there for her and help in tense situations. Temari on the other hand is driven, outspoken and strong. Shikamaru needs a woman like that as if he got with someone equally as lazy they wouldn’t amount to much. Plus I think he’s attracted to that strength in Temari, but that’s just my opinion. Temari is also insanely loyal.

They help each other to the best that they can be. I’m so glad they actually became canon.
