Music Corner: BoA – Woman

It’s been a while since I’ve done a music post on here, my apologies.

Anyway let’s get on with the show!

My new woman jam?

I have songs that I love that celebrate being a woman, like Shania Twain’s I Feel like a Woman and Whitney Houston’s remake of Chaka Khan’s I’m Every Woman, I feel like BoA’s new song joins their ranks.

I’m not going to pretend like I’ve been this huge fan of BoA’s all along. However I do respect her. She paved a way in kpop for many of the artists that are active now. She was one of the first to go to Japan and she did it without a translator. She’s worked hard with her music and has constantly delivered. I love how she goes hard with her dancing and how she’s done that from the beginning. She’s feminine but also a tomboy. I love that. She’s fresh, innovative and humble and for that alone I like her.

I really like this comeback as it’s just so womanly. I am here for any song or concept that celebrates being a woman. It’s sexy, poised and smooth. The song itself is nice to listen to and you bet I’m going to be playing it whenever and wherever. I’ll play it while driving and leave the car empowered.

I love how in the music video different kinds of women are represented. She has young women, older women, girls and herself. She has tomboys to feminine women. There are also different races represented with there being white women and blasian (I think, blasian being Black and Asian) kids. The diversity of what a woman is, is also reflected in her outfit choices, each look works on her. My personal favourite is the off shoulder black number with that hat! I have a guilty pleasure for hats like that.

The lyrics are also good. She talks about how she is still evolving and hasn’t finished discovering who she is as a woman. She’s like an onion, many layers. She’s confident and she doesn’t compare herself to others but rather shines based on her own inner worth. This is something I agree with, as woman we shouldn’t compare ourselves to each other, we’re all unique and we can all shine together.

Now let’s talk about the dance… she killed that though! She really killed it! Like forget about it that upside down walking dance is iconic! I mean how many artists do you know that can strut upside down? Exactly, not many! If you can’t tell already I am in love with the dance, every part of it. There are so many key moments, but I don’t know how to describe them, I just like them.

If you haven’t seen the music video or the live stage, check it out, I encourage you. See the awesomeness for yourselves.

Anyway that is it for today.

Until next time,

Ciao!
