SPOILERS WITHIN
I love Nico Robin. The love I have for this chick is immense. She is such a relatable character for me. From the beginning to how she is now I just get her and love her. Does this sound like an ode to Robin? I guess it will just have to be.
When she was first introduced she was a mystery. She made herself out to be a villain and she succeeded. I really thought she had killed Vivi’s guardian! Then they met her in Alabaster and she showed that she wasn’t evil but she had no will to live. However Luffy had no time for that and decided to save her. She then was like, “You better take responsibility for my life”, and he did… he really did!!
Man, again we all need a friend like Luffy.
Obviously they didn’t trust her but I enjoyed watching them go on adventurers together and grow closer to Robin. I liked watching them become friends with her and trust her. I liked how her personality would come out little by little and she’d sort of relax and show her intelligence.
However it always felt like another shoe was about to drop. I didn’t know what and I always wondered what exactly she had done as a child to be hunted the way she was, especially when Aokiji showed up.
Then Water 7 and Enies Loby happened. Can I just say that Water 7 was one of the best arcs in terms of set up and mystery? I totally did not see that coming! I mean I didn’t expect it to be all about Robin and the CP9 dudes, I was shocked! What a twist!
We finally found out her backstory and man, how heart-breaking! I mean first there was Jaguar D Saul and then everyone on her island was annihilated because of the knowledge they possessed. As a historian that arc annoyed me so much!! I was angry for them!! And it made me more suspicious of the Navy. Anyone who tries to hide history is up to no good. It got me sooo curious about the missing hundred years, like dude!
It was such a good twist too because I thought Robin was wanted because she’d done some heinous crime but that wasn’t the case. I like how Oda exceeds my expectations. I appreciate that as a reader. He really gets you thinking.
The biggest moment for Robin was when she declared that she wanted to live and to be a part of the Strawhats and thus Luffy endeavoured to save her. That made me really happy, she finally wanted to live. She was no longer alone in her bubble but had people fighting for her.
Sometimes I think about how lonely she must have been and then I think about how Luffy and the gang came into her life and changed it forever. It’s so beautiful.
I like how Aokiji also just wanted her to fight for her life as Saul wanted, for her to live. Saul man, his interactions with her mother and how he saved both of them… just, he had the best laugh. I can understand why Robin was traumatised for so long. Man, imagine doing that to a child.
Man I can’t stand Akainu (and the other navy responsible).
Personality
She’s smart in a different way from the other Strawhats. Because she lived with Archeologists and had access to so many books she’s book smart and in their world a revolutionary. I mean, it still blows my mind that she basically kicked it with Dragon’s crew for two years.
She’s the only one who can read the ponetygths and that will be valuable to them in the long run with the One Piece.
She’s calm and used to be very melancholy because of the depression and lack of will of live. However since she’s been saved mentally she has gotten happier and smiles more. She’s still got dark humour though. I don’t think that’s ever going to change.
I don’t even think she’s trying to be funny, she’s just seen so much darkness her mind automatically assumes… oh this house is haunted. I like that it’s included in her character though, there are different types of people in this world, not everyone is bright.
Since her life as Crocodile’s subordinate she’s ruthless. She’s also acquired valuable skills. She’s a good spy and along with Zoro capable of killing. Although that is not her first reaction and she adverse to fighting preferring to read or study.
Despite life she still has kindness in her even before Luffy showed up. She saved Igaram and Luffy, and has a love for children. I mean she’s so sweet with Otoko and Chopper.
I love that she can also be silly when needed. She didn’t lose the humour that Saul tried to teach her. Let me not get emotionally…
In conclusion, she is one of my favourite characters and I can’t wait to see what’s next in store for her. I bet she has a lot of hidden cards up her sleeve.
That is all for now,
Next shall be Franky!
